Current News

  • Thursday 18 Hole League Tee Time Registration

This week the registration for the Thursday 18 Hole League was a bit of a mess.  Beginning next week please adhere to the following.

    1.  If you register yourself or a group for a tee time and you see it is already taken (mostly a concern for those of you who all hit the site exactly at 9:30am each week), edit your registration and change the tee time.  Duplicates will be moved to the first open tee time available after everyone else is placed in their spot.
    2. If you would like to play with a group having less than 4 players that is already registered, please contact the person who made the registration (first person listed) and ask them to add you to the group – if someone has not already taken it by registering on their own and selecting the tee time.
    3. Please do not email or text the league admin instead of registering, your request will not be honored.  This method not only interferes with my work time, it makes the situation worse because there is there is no visibility to the other members that you sent a text or email requesting a spot, resulting in 5 or 6 people thinking they will have a certain tee time.
    4. It is acceptable to email or text the league admin (Dave) in the following situations.  a) Registration is already closed and you want to add if there is a spot available.  b) There is an emergency or some other situation we should know about. 3) Cancelation after registration is closed.

I realize this is an imperfect system and has some built in frustrations. However, the alternative is much worse (sign up individually and I let Bluegolf randomly pair everyone).  BlueGolf registration as a group is not an option as it will not allow you to register more than one person unless it is set up as a team event.  We tested it, definitely worse than what we have now.

Everyone needs to exercise some advance planning and attention to detail until I have the time to develop a better solution or BlueGolf makes the changes we need to do it through their system.

Thank you very much for your help.

  • Be Prepared for Men’s Club Electronic Scoring!

All Thursday 18 Hole League players should be prepared for electronic scoring!  Download the Bluegolf Scorecard app at the link below if you do not have it. For Men’s Club events we do not use the WSGA app, live scoring with that app is for WSGA tournaments only. This is our 4th year utilizing BlueGolf live scoring and the app is free and easy to use.

    BlueGolf – Scorecard App

Once you install the app and log in you will see the screen as shown below (with your name on it). Click on the event you are playing to open the scorecard.  One member of each group will be the designated scorer for the event, usually the first one in the group to open the app and click on the event being played. If you are not the scorer, you can look at the card to verify correct score entry, check leaderboards, etc.  If the app ever freezes up or gets stuck, its best to swipe the app away to close it, then go back in again.

After the round is finished, the scorer will need to verify scores for all players and sign the card.  If there is a no show and you did not enter a score for someone in the group you will not be able to sign the card – that is OK!  The scores are still entered and we will handle it after the round.

One person in the group should also fill out the paper scorecard – someone other than the electronic scorer.  This scorecard should be turned in at the pro shop counter after completion of play.  We use this as a double-check if there are scoring issues or typos – it saves a lot of phone calls / emails back and forth for the officers.   We may decide to discontinue the paper scorecard at some point, we are not quite there yet but close.

If you are new and have questions, ask your playing partners that have done the scoring before.  Joe and Dave will be available after everyone finishes this week to help with any questions or issues that arise.

  • Welcome to Wanaki Men’s Club Thursday 18 Hole League for 2024

Welcome to all of you who have joined the Thursday 18 Hole League for 2024.  We have 100 players signed up for the league this year which is the most ever.

Registration is open for the first week of the season on April 25th.  If you are new, you can select a tee time that has less than 3 people signed up or you can pick Any for a tee time and I will put you in a group.  If you have questions about how to log in and register for Thursday 18 Hole League, please click here to go to the help page for more information.

You need to have a WSGA handicap, or you will be playing at a 0.  If you are new and had a WSGA handicap at a different course, that handicap is now linked to Wanaki. If you do not have a WSGA handicap, you need to post scores ASAP using the WSGA app or on https://www.wsga.org/.  You can post scores even going back to last year and it only takes 3 scores to get a valid handicap.  If you have questions regarding accessing your WSGA account and score posting, click here to go to the help page for more information.

The 18-hole league utilizes electronic scoring in BlueGolf. You will see the leaderboard on the screen in the clubhouse and you can also see it live on your phone while on the course or any time after play is completed. One person in each foursome must do the live scoring. Please install the BlueGolf Scorecard application on your phone before the first week you play.  If a group does not use the electronic scoring (unless there is a technical issue affecting everyone) their scores will not be counted.  Not having a smartphone or forgetting your phone in the car are not valid excuses. If you are having difficulties entering scores electronically, ask other league members or officers of the Men’s Club for help before you leave the course.  We will still be printing a paper scorecard for each foursome, and one person in the group should enter scores on that card to use for checking the electronic scoring data entry at the end of the round.  You should leave those printed cards at the Pro Shop counter.

You do not need to post scores in WSGA for the Thursday 18 Hole League. Bluegolf will post the scores for you once the results are finalized which is usually within 1 day of the date of play.

Pace of play will be monitored and enforced. The electronic scoring system now monitors pace of play and provides updates on current status.  If certain groups or players are registering for early tee times and not maintaining pace of play, they will be moved to the back in future weeks regardless of the tee time selected at registration.

Weekly results summaries, links to standings, and other information can be found on the Thursday 18 Hole League page on the website.  Thank you for joining the league this year, contact Dave Strackbein if you have any questions.
